Garden Smoothie

Published on | Updated on

It’s blackberry and pear season! After enjoying our friend Judi’s “momba” smoothies so many times, we got a good Ninja blender to make our own. Dr. Gregor has some videos about research that shows you get all the benefits of the kale and berries in blended form, but that’s not true for all fruits. We harvest a lot of blackberries and pears in August, and end up freezing some of the blackberries. In addition to pear & blackberry crisp, it’s a great, healthy way to use up the harvest.

Ingredients

  • banana (fresh or frozen)
  • carrots (1 or 2 small)
  • apple or pear, cored
  • dates (2-3)
  • soy or almond milk (maybe a cup?)
  • frozen berries of your choice (1-2 cups)
  • orange, peeled (optional)
  • kale (5-10 leaves, optional)

Instructions

Put everything in a powerful blender and pulse until mixed. With lots of blackberries, it’s pretty purple. It can turn green if we go heavy on the kale and lighter on the berries. It’s a great way to use up our blackberry and pear harvests in August.

Makes 2-3 glasses, and keeps fine in the fridge until the next day if you can’t drink it all.
